VARs Vote Red Hat Product Top Server Operating System

VARs love Red Hat, according to the results of a Channel Insider poll. Or the least, VARs like Red Hat enough to deem Red Hat Enterprise Linux the top server operating system in the Channel Insider's 2008 Product of the Year awards.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux received a "Channel Score" of 6.55, while 6.28 was enough to put Sun Microsystems Solaris 10 into second place. Third place and a score of 5.54 went to Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP1.

Microsoft's name is absent from the list, of course, and that seems a little odd. But Matt Asay writes, "Microsoft claimed the top spot in the 'Client Operating System' category. The Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager 2007 also won in the 'System and Network Management' category. And Microsoft's SQL Server won in the 'Database' category. So, this isn't a group of Microsoft haters doing the voting."

Red Hat just seems to have an authentic edge where VARs and server operating systems are concerned.

In response, Mark Enzweiler, Red Hat's vice president of North American channels, stated, "We are very honored to receive the award for best server operating system given the depth of expertise Channel Insider provides professionals in the channel community."
